Kadayawan Festival: Missing in Action
Since Kadayawan Festival is one of the biggest festivals here in Davao City, I missed the action. I have not visited any of the activities in today’s events. Some of my friends, whom I envy posting pictures on FB with their latest actions enjoying the city.
I just got hired for a full-time job locally and was really busy doing follow-ups for my documents. Then having the contract signing and attending the Newly Hired Orientation on the holidays itself. So, probably I have no time to stroll and discover how the Kadayawan is celebrated in this year.
I’ve heard that there are a lot of new activities, unlike last year. The event coordinator Gatchi Gatchalian is very proud that they have more than activities this year than last year. So, that was really exciting, right? But I missed all of them.
Below are the events I have heard and I have missed:
- Tribal huts at Magsaysay Park. I have heard that there are a lot of tribal and native houses built to introduce a local way of building houses using only native products like bamboo trees, coconut leaves, and other natural resources.
- Flower Festival – which is one of the main highlights that this event has it. You can see a lot of those different way of creating art through decorating flowers in different angles. Some made an eagle design, nature designs and much more which I believe that I have missed really.
- Concerts – people here love music as well, so concerts are one of the main attractions to celebrate the Kadayawan Festival. There are concerts from indigenous musicians, local artists, and others.
- Food – So if festival are in, food too. There are a lot of offers for street food somewhere in Davao like Roxas but during this event, much more are interested to offer their delicacies to visitors, tourists and locals as well.
Since I was really busy with my on-the-job training, I have limited time to visit this event for this year. But my sisters did not. They have tried to visit the Tribal Huts in Magsaysay Park and shared there moments there. Below are some of the pictures that they had.
So I hope next year would be more interesting and that I could also celebrate as well.
What to Remember?
For the next year, if ever some of us wanted to attend the celebration, we just need to file for a vacation leave, haha. But kidding aside, this is one event that is worth taking a vacation. you can visit a lot of places and see events that are highlighted for this one. Just remember to be careful of your things, take a short research for the schedules and see the which places and events you may want to barge in. In short, plan your Kadayawan Fest ahead of time. Prepare your finances, your self, and your adventures. In this way, you can maximize the time and the effort to enjoy this festival without missing a moment.
